Sitting person
I don’t have too much to say about this one. Just exploring the medium of egg tempera. I pushed this painting a bit more than my last one. The surface of the canvas is built up with thicker layers of medium. I like the effect that occurs when there are pools of egg tempera paint that dry somewhat transparently. I think that its considered bad form to have cracks in the applied paint after it dries, but I am liking that effect as well. I plan on pushing the thickness of the paint even more.
While working on this, I was listening to a lot of artist talks and looking at a lot of paintings. I usually work on many paintings at once. I completely destroyed a painting I started that was based on a plein air sketch. That was a bad experience. It started off really well. I’m also working on many fictional pictures of sculpture installations and abstract jumbles.
Face Study from 13’/15’
The guy in the tempera painting’s face is something I wanted to show … I want to take what Bacon did, but take that a step past his paintings or other artists like Picasso.
I don’t think the Tempera painting did that. I like the direction of this figure to the left and am planning to continue in this vein going forwards.
