What Happened to Neo Rauch?

I remember when I first saw Neo Rauch. His art was so fresh & unique. You need to remember that when he came onto the scene, art was still mostly revolving around abstraction.

But what happened to this guy? I remember how his ideas reverberated. I saw the first show of Jenny Saville in NYC at about the same time I saw Rauch in magazines and both were equally huge.

Hmmm… both artists also have largely continued making images that haven’t wandered very far from their starting point since then.

Rauch is still on the scene. His work still is in great demand. But to me it feels dead now.
