WORK IN PROGRESS

there is a long ways to go

I started this painting while looking at a series of Basquait heads. I liked them. They looked like they would be somehtingg you could make quickly.

After getting the figure down… I started to move back and forth between something weird and realistic. I got stuck.

I think Basquait leaves his work at about the level as one of the starts of a painting I do. This isn’t a bad thing. I over work my paintings and then over work them more and more and more. Basquait’s ability to get a head out of the door with the full rawness of the initial push is commendable. I cant do it like that. I wish I could.

The figure started to get all mild and contemplative. I could see that this would become an extreme effort of proportion editing again if I were to go down the path I was on. I wanted to shake it up. I still liked the idea of a figure and the trees. I wanted insane colors here for some reason. I like the bright neon yellow/green and red/pink contrasts.

Then I had an idea that this would be more long the lines of something my brother would draw. A crazy character in an action pose. I quickly came to think that this was a picture about a pleinair painter who was caught by the viewer. The pleinair painter is unhappy.

I am currently thinking this could be a two part painting? Part one is the painter sees they are being viewed by the viewer. Part two could be the painter then begging the viewer for help. They want to get out of that reality.
