Art History

Art history is an integral part of my practice. I research artists and their work as a way of thinking through my own painting.

I think of a painting as one side of a conversation. Artists leave records of their ideas. In turn, others are influenced by and evolve the ideas.

These pages are notes on what I am learning, how I think artists relate to one another, and what I find successful or unsuccessful in their work.

Research

The Research scale measures the current quality of research, not the importance or quality of the artist.

1 Beginning Placeholder. Gathering information.
2 Developing Research is underway. Forming ideas and connections.
3 Substantial Enough research to form an emerging point of view.
4 Developed A considered statement about the artist and their work.
5 Statement A finished reflection that represents a viewpoint.
