This is one of Manet’s paintings. Its not my favorite of his, but its good.
Process:
First Sketches
At first, I thought it would be good to have a lady on the balcony smoking in response to Lyons. I was thinking of different ways to pose her.
First Sketches
I spent a lot of time looking online at source material. I mashed a few ideas together and redid it like this.
I’m not sure how high up they are yet. I feel like we, the viewers, are looking down at them from across a narrow street. I am thinking that the bottom of the balcony could be blocked from view by a top of a tree??? Need to re-sketch this again.
I do really like the ladies and the rest of the composition works for me (I can imagine the dark interior and the green blinds on the right).
