Guston Car Drawing
Inspiration for this Drawing:
I have been working out this piece for a while. I started off by being interested in Philip Guston and the shape things he would craft in what I understand were drunken fits of creativity. (Below are a few of these works by Guston where he was figuring out his car shape).
I started off with several quick sketches before refining them to this piece:

That sketch was used as a template starting point for this oil painting.
Painting - Still in Progress.
This is where I left the oil painting at the end of 2025. My intent is to come back and layer washes of color on top of it.
The way I have been working is I want to focus on a specific media type. I don’t want to jump from oils to mixed media to egg tempera lightly. I shifted from the oils six months ago and have been wanting to go back there for a while. I started this drawing to explore some thoughts I have on mark making/color layering that I think might work on the oil.

It takes a while to get into an artwork. I’m still not feeling it yet. I thought it would be interesting to say what I’m doing at this point.
I’m layering color. I’m trying to flood this paper with ink, watercolor, and pencil marks. I know that I will get to a point where it will click and I’ll be fully engaged, but so far, I have not felt that.
