Human Nature

I did a series of these figures. I look at photo references online all of the time. I’m addicted to looking at shapes, patterns, composition, color, etc. Some of the best photography in my opinion are outdoor candid fashion shots. The space around the figure I is not a primary concern for anyone concerned with the initial endeavor, yet sometimes engaging spatial ideas are offered up.

I can’t remember exactly how I got the source material for this drawing. I would often cobble together several photos, using different elements, making exaggerations and color choices.

I think this one came together really well. I’m looking at it and am very happy with its outcome. Its a small work. I could see this one being a larger painting. I might try to redo this with Doig style washes of paint…

What I am most happy with are the color choices. I think I knocked it out of the park with this one. Ha, I am not being modest because this isn’t me any more. I’m reacting to the work I did 10 years ago and I am not going to be that person any more. I can still appreciate what I did well, I think this is one of 20 or so drawings I think I did well… back then.
