Unfinished: Hillside Episode

There are a few drawings I like but didn’t finish, mainly because the paper began to break down while I was working. I never understood why some sheets would start to disintegrate under repeated erasing and mark-making, while others held up without issue. I stopped this one when the surface began to tear.

What holds my attention here is the compositional & narrative perspective. The figures in the foreground against the side of the hill suggest to me something worth developing. Currently, while working on plein air sketches, I’m looking for a more deliberate way to frame this kind of composition.
