Klimt - Island in the Attersee

I’ve been looking for images of water reflecting land to support some work I’m doing on a painting. I was very taken by this painting from Klimt called 'Insel im Attersee (Island in the Attersee).

First of all, I like the composition. If you take a quick look at it, its just looks like a dark blob at the top of the canvas and the rest of it is the water. However, its pretty cool how Klimt used brush marks and color shifts to add depth to that sense of space. Its not flat. Your eye will follow the colors and dance around.

This isn’t a ‘great’ painting, but its a neat study.

Gustav Klimt (Austrian, 1862-1918), 'Insel im Attersee (Island in the Attersee)', c.1901-02, oil on canvas 100.5 x 100.5 cm.
