Alex Katz
Appreciating Katz
I read a lot of art history. I feel like I kept up on what was published about Katz. Until recently, everything I ever saw about Katz revolved around his portraiture and then his monumental paintings. These are great works, there are a ton of masterpieces that he has painted in that group. But…
Because of Instagram feeds, I have started to encounter a different side of Katz that I had not seen before, small quick panel studies that seem to be en plein-air. Seeing this side of Katz as an artist just made me step back and admire what he has done in a new light.
I’m not an expert on Katz, I’m going to start to put his life together in this blog post so I can better understand him and his history.
