Arnold Böcklin
Bocklin was a very successful painter during his day. He influenced many of his younger contemporaries. Bocklin has become best known for his painting ‘Isle of the Dead’. He painted at least 6 versions of the work (Similar to how Munch painted the Scream several times). This painting became a symbol of the 3rd Reich leading up to World War 2.
One of my favorite works by Bocklin and why I am writing this is his piece 'Mondscheinlandschaft mit Ruine'. The moodiness of this piece gets to me.

Bocklin was best known for this ‘Isle of the Dead (Die Totenisel)‘.
