Francesco Clemente

My awareness of Clemente goes back to the late 80’s when he was at his zenith. For a long time I have had a turmoil of mixed feelings about his work.

Mostly my first couple of decades of thinking about Clemente, I really didn’t like his work at all. I put him in there with Schnable and Sally and closed the door on him. Over the years I have run across a couple of his paintings that I like a lot.

Recently, I have been thinking about Clemente’s figures a lot. I decided that I owed Clemente a deeper re-examination of his work. and these are my thoughts.

Some work from Clemente that I love.
