George Catlin
George Catlin lived a crazy life, became one of the first embedded journalists (to use that term lightly), and painted some great Americana work.
I’m looking at Americana from the 18th and 19th century trying to better understand the influences someone like Ryder or Hartley would have encountered.
I came across Catlin. I have been seeing his work for a long time here and there and this was my first deep dive into who he was.
Catlin lived an insane life. From what I have so far gathered, he went and documented the lives of Native American’s and then used the material he created over many years to build a museum dedicated to his work.
