This initial sketch came about when I was looking at galleries online. I thought it would be fun to show an advertisement of a gallery space window at night in the rain.
Hotel Girl Study - Jane Dickson 2006
I came across this work by Dickson and was taken by her use of red to evoke city night darkness.
Yvonne Jacquette - Tokyo Il - 1986
Its a little harder to see in this image, but Jacquette is also using some really great colors (including red) to evoke night in a city.

While I love Caillebotte, this painting is funny because you can’t see the rain, its just people walking around with umbrellas.
Emily Ferretti - Puddles (large) - 2025
I like how Emily Ferretti evokes rain.
