Lubna Chowdhary - Metropolis

I’m not super familiar with Lubna Chowdhary, but I like what she does and the more I read about her and explore her work, the more I like it.

Her portfolio is incredibly diverse. If you look her up, you’ll find everything from vivid abstract paintings and strange sculptural furniture to intricate installations.

I’ve been particularly drawn to her work Metropolis. It’s a massive installation of 1,000 individual ceramic pieces that sits right on the edge of recognition. The shapes are abstract enough to evoke thoughts of industrial architecture, urban design, and organic remnants.

According to her biography, Metropolis “was created over a 28-year period. Chowdhary began the work in 1991 and continued to build on it over time, completing the project in 2019”.

Below is a good interview with Chowdhary where she talks about her history and how she has worked with ceramics.
