Im just finding out about Elga Sesemann. Her work in the 1940s is in my opinion breath taking. Just after she left college she painted several portraits with thick paint and complex colors that evoke a mood and sense of space that I find very appealing.
There is a great biography on Sesemann here: https://www.elgasesemann.com/en/om-elga-sesemann/
There was a large retrospective of here career recently. More info can be found here: https://ateneum.fi/en/exhibitions/modern-classics-elga-sesemann/
Work From Sesemann’s Early Career:
After that inintial outpouring of portraiture, I think Sesemann got married to an artist, she kept working on portraiture and explored several other ‘styles’ of painting.
This webpage is a ‘work in progress’. I will add more later.
