Munter - Breakfast of the Birds

I recently discovered the artist Gabriele Münter, and I'm particularly struck by her work, "Breakfast of the Birds."

There is so much I appreciate about this painting:

  • I like how Münter positions the subject—whether it's herself or a figure—with her back to the viewer.

  • The scene shows a simple breakfast laid out in what appears to be a very comforting home, contrasting with the birds sitting outside on a snowy day.

  • The red interior colors and the grey exterior colors sets a subtle contrast.

  • The strange shapes of the window shades gives me a comforting embraced feeling.

Below is another picture I really admire… She has so many great pictures though. I’d be here all day posting pictures if added all of her good ones.

Below: Great talk on Munter. She really has a large body of exceptional work. The guy who narrates the talk is frigging amazing as well.
