Georgia O’Keeffe

Mea Culpa! Isn’t that what you are supposed to say when you realize you were wrong? I was wrong about O’Keeffe.

Like any normal American who has even lightly followed artists, I have known about O’Keeffe for my lifetime. I have never liked her work. I don’t think its completely my fault that I formed the impression of her that I have because all you ever see of her are these stylized flowers that represent sexuality.

I even lived in Santa Fe for a short time and did not go to her museum there because I really didn’t want to see any more of that work.

My opinion of O’Keeffe changed because I saw this work on Instagram:

Mesa and Road East - 1952

Woah! that is a great painting. That is the way New Mexico feels at certain times of the year. The composition, colors, and brush work are all well done. I like the mix of both realism and imagination.

More coming soon.
