Jennifer Bartlett

These are a few thoughts on Jennifer Bartlett. I had never liked her work until recently when I came across a few landscapes that caused me to change my ill formed opinion.

Bartlett - Rhapsody 1975

Jennifer Bartlett had a huge international introduction to the art scene in the late 70’s with a her installation of foot square panels…

Bartlett, Fibonacci - 2010

Bartlett covered a lot of ground in her career. Until recently, I had never found anything by her that resonated with me.

Recitative 2009-10

I’m just not that interested in someone coloring steel plates.

Recently though, I came across a few of her landscapes. The series

Series of untitled works about her visits to a hospital. There are aspects of these that I really like.

Cliffs Current Judgement

I don’t know enough about her. I’m finding that the more I research about her life, the more there is to find and it not all the horrible bad abstract stuff I had equated her with for so long.

I personally am more drawn to an artist like Gabriele Munter who was able to pack more into a single small piece than I’m getting from room fulls of Bartlett artworks.
