The Balcony (Manet and Lyons)

Currently, this is my favorite work by Lyons.

I love how Lyons is just taking so much from Manet in this picture. In much of her work, you can see elements of other artists. I like that it is so in your face with this one.

I love Manet and I feel like The Balcony is one of his strongest works, but Lyons knows her stuff and pulls in 150 years of art history to ‘update’ the picture.
