Leon Kossoff

Over the last several months I have thought a lot about several British artists and how they have influenced each other. Kossoff lived and worked in London in the sphere of Aurbach, Freud, and Francis Bacon. They all approach painting with similar objectives and wildly different outcomes. I can’t think of four artists who were more closely tied to the act of looking as part of their painting practice. When you see film or videos of Freud you can actually see his entire face focus on someone.

Kossoff was known for thick blobby paintings. Both Kossoff and Aurbach produced works
