I’m really interested in the word ‘Art’. If I say I want to be an ‘artist’, that can mean almost anything. I could want to be a painter, a sculptor, a piano player, a chef… really you can say ‘that person is an artist’ in his or her field for just about any profession I can think of.
When I say ‘I want to make quality artwork’, what am I saying? I’m having a hard time with this concept recently. We as a society right now are using money to say ‘this is the best artwork’. Jackson Pollock’s paintings regularly sell for $100’s of millions. These paintings are also just the bi-product of a man dribbling paint on the ground. What makes the Pollock paint drips ‘art’? Why are Pollock’s drips considered to be iconic symbols of the 20th century, while drips left on a painters drop cloth after a house painting session are considered to be nothing more than a mess.
Are Jackson Pollocks paintings the penultimate essence of what is art that we should all be aspiring towards? Or do we need to create terms to help refine what it is exactly we are talking about when we are talking about ‘art’.

I am very interested in interior design. I like how a room fits together and if done well, becomes the essence of the person(s) living in the space.
