Picasso - Harlequin with a Mirror, 1923
What I like about this work:
The pallet of colors: restrained and harmonic. That light blue just makes this piece so much better.
The style: Picasso painted several works during this period that I love. What I like about this period is he kept the painterly colors loose and simple, then using a dark black color, he adds detail highlights that pulls everything together
End of Session 11
Finally…
I was worried that this was not going to come together. I had it sitting there in the corner for a couple of days looking at me. I wasn’t sure if I was going to do away with it or not.
I really am thinking a lot about Munch when I look at it at this point.
I didn’t know that you could use water color like this. It feels liberating to use it to such excess and mash it in with inks and pencil. It feels illegal, like I’m breaking a rule. Ha, I’m such a geek.
Admire the quality of paint application in this work. This piece is carried a lot further than most of his works.
